update as a high school sophomore + textbooks and projects

This is technically my first post (if you don’t count the write-up I did of that one integral), so I guess I have to introduce myself.

I pride myself in being an ambitious person. I do a lot (piano, violin, math, cs, textbooks), and maybe I’m only mediocre at a lot of them but hey — it’s fun! I’ve been jumping from project to project, leaving most of them unfinished.

I’ve also been thinking a little bit about the future (death too, sometimes). I want to be curious and build a life I really love.

It’s hard to enjoy things sometimes, for a variety of reasons: a. the school system is so exhausting. At this point, passion and curiosity feel secondary to this checklist society has built in place, both from college and grades. b. I don’t always know what I enjoy or how to even start figuring it out.

Right now I’m taking it slow. I have a long list of textbooks I want to go through, starting with Apostol Calculus Vol. 1 and including (but not limited to) Abel’s Theorem in Problems and Solutions, Halmos’ Linear Algebra problem book, and maybe once I finish that, The Joy of Abstraction. I’ve been jumping around Apostol Calc which has been exhausting but quite fun so far. I will hopefully finish this blog soon and purchase my own domain. The 4D sandbox project is nothing more than a few lines of code, but I am hoping I have something to show for it in a few months.

As for piano, I love my current repertoire — I’m learning the Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto no. 2 which is an absolute dream, as well as some Rachmaninoff.

For now I will stumble aimlessly, but I seem to be enjoying the ride.
